An apron for my chef

~I made and apron for KG for our recent anniversary. I was pretty excited when he said he would like one. (I had offered my services before but he had declined).
... However lately he has been very into Jacques Pepin (which I am thrilled with), and as you can see, getting pretty creative in the kitchen(again loving this). He loves the simple elegance of Jacquie's cooking style
..... and I love that he always makes a dessert.
~So I asked again and he was totally on board. I had thought many times about making him an apron and what it might look like. KG wears pretty much a black T shirt , Levi's and boots or sneakers, (he does wear a western snap when the occasion suits him, but only in muted colors). If you have seen my aprons (or anything I make) you can see how this might be an exercise in restraint for me.
I had made some skull and bones type stuff last spring and summer , but they were still seeming a little too girly for him. We have this cool old sign in our bedroom and I have always wanted to use it's imagery in something special for him. ~I am not quite sure where he got it(I think it was a old warning sign for an electric fence, this is what I have always thought anyway) but it echos his daytime work. I had always thought I would use the skull form it. The skull is so harsh and German looking, very different than your run of the mill skull and bones. But then it dawned on me that the fist was really my favorite part. It seemed relevant to have the lightening as well but at the last moment I thought it was unfair for his daytime drudgery to be invading his nighttime passion so I defiantly put a spoon in the fist instead( I know, I am just such a crazy rebel lady)~ I was torn as to whether or not make it an applique or the much less practiced(by me) art of embroidery , but I felt like embroidery was more his speed, my man is quite subtle.
I am pleased with the patch worked bib piece using the embroidery as the central focus, ....but the bottom pocket I am on the fence about. He wanted a pocket and I could not help myself so there is a little skull on it ..but we will see if I let it live there. Maybe it should just be plain, yes I did say plain. This skull just seems a little silly for KG (NO, a power fist with a spoon is not too silly. It is a fine line I am walking here)

~This is a new apron pattern I have been working on to have fuller coverage across the bib and a little simpler design overall; um, yeah maybe?(I have quite a few in my custom stack). KG's is fully lined with a very cool striped shirting.

~I think it is very handsome indeed....
and Anyway he likes it and looks good in it too.

Texas Apron

I made this Texas apron for this past Saturday and sold it about 10 minutes into the day! I finished it around 2 Am on the Friday before the market, which means I "owned" it for almost 12 hours! I had forgotten about a set of Texas hot-pads and a Texas purse that I had made 3 years ago until I started trying to design a Texas apron for a certain lady's up and coming birthday. The hang-up I was having on the design was finding a non-" 4th of July" blue fabric to use as the blue. I bought this dark blue (used in the bib and flag) with soft grey mums fabric for a custom wrap (to be posted later) and it worked perfect! I made the Texas shaped appliqué out of a path-work leaf fabric with an olive green background which, tempered the red white and blue and created a Texas apron… instead of just a "Texas flag apron"

I also made this sweet teeny-weeny fall skirt for my little Cali transplant. I put little leaves on the pocket to echo the patchy little leaves on the fabric of the skirt.
I used a little red corduroy in the pocket patchwork as well, to remind us that it is a fall skirt since that is about the all corduroy you need in a Texas "fall".

I also sold several new wallet styles this week~ This is the front view... and the interior view of one of them...

~ I kinda love them and did not think I would sell them and the Texas apron so quickly! Luckily I did snap a few (not so great) photos to remind me....
I am having major computer issues this week so if you try to contact me I may be slow to return! And this may be the only post if I can even get this up (this is the second retype) ugh! I think I have to give my sick computer a name if he (they are boys right?) recovers cause” The machine" might just be pissing him off.

New on my etsy aprons and bags

So i am trying to post new items on etsy on Sundays. This way they have a little time online before they are up for grabs at the Farmers Market
this is my spokesman
I am working on having some " only on etsy" items but for now that is the farmers Market privilege(I sell things a the market before I have a chance to post on etsy). Items at the market are also 25% less than he items on etsy to cover my time it takes to post and the cost of using etsy.

******************Here are a few new things***************

Little chick apron! So sweet, with dark green and light green gingham skirt and recycled vintage smock. The smock has a pattern of old timey weather veins that are too cute. The pocket is a patchwork of some really sweet swatches with two vintage plastic accent (non functional) buttons. The neck strap is a button closure that also has vintage plastic buttons. The waist strap is sturdy and dark green. This apron would fit up to a 14 comfortably.

Pretty pink fishing on the pond apron. I so heart this apron! The skirt is from a 1960’s bed sheet and the smock is a new green polka dot with a patch from a vintage tablecloth of two fellas fishing on a pond! The patchwork pocket includes the barn from the same “ farm” themed tablecloth. All pockets are fully lined. The neck strap is the same 1960’s bed sheet material and is a tie closure. The waist strap is sturdy, yellow, new, sportswear cotton. That coordinates perfectly with the yellow flowers on the skirt fabric. This apron would fit up to a 14 comfortably.
I also finished these two pieces this elephant bag;
Elephant project/shop tote. This bag measures 12x16. The patch is a combination of vintage fabric and an elephant image from a safari sheet set. The elephant looks as if it is a wood block print. There is an interior pocket perfect for a cell or ipod . The handle is green fat corduroy with strip of fabric sewn on the handles at the point where you grasp.

and this market skirt in cool tones;
Cool tones vintage fabric skirt size med to large (8-10). A-line, market skirt with some fabulous new (to me) vintage fabric. The front and back are two different fabrics. The front is the prettiest little flowers in circles and the back is polka flowers on a dusty blue background. The pocket is fully lined patchwork of coordinating fabrics. All in cool tones. Hits just above the knee and has an elastic waist.

Aprons, aprons, aprons,...Farmers market preview for April 26th

Aprons!! I am trying to make more , they do take lots of attention , I just get so wrapped up in making each one I forget that I need to make more than one a week; anyway I hope to make at least one more this week. Here is the first it has that sweet calico garden print I got in Wimberly as the smock and a raw silk as the skirt.

I made the flower pattern after one of the flowers in the print.

I used all green vintage buttons on the pocket and the smock from the stash the uncle gave us!(thanks CG)

here are a few pix of my others but they are already happy in someone Else's home( i did not even get a chance to post photos of them before I sold them)

I also have some new boy shorts size 2t( i had to make 2 pair one for Burger and one for the market)
hope to
see you at the Market!!!
