Texas Apron

I made this Texas apron for this past Saturday and sold it about 10 minutes into the day! I finished it around 2 Am on the Friday before the market, which means I "owned" it for almost 12 hours! I had forgotten about a set of Texas hot-pads and a Texas purse that I had made 3 years ago until I started trying to design a Texas apron for a certain lady's up and coming birthday. The hang-up I was having on the design was finding a non-" 4th of July" blue fabric to use as the blue. I bought this dark blue (used in the bib and flag) with soft grey mums fabric for a custom wrap (to be posted later) and it worked perfect! I made the Texas shaped appliqué out of a path-work leaf fabric with an olive green background which, tempered the red white and blue and created a Texas apron… instead of just a "Texas flag apron"

I also made this sweet teeny-weeny fall skirt for my little Cali transplant. I put little leaves on the pocket to echo the patchy little leaves on the fabric of the skirt.
I used a little red corduroy in the pocket patchwork as well, to remind us that it is a fall skirt since that is about the all corduroy you need in a Texas "fall".

I also sold several new wallet styles this week~ This is the front view... and the interior view of one of them...

~ I kinda love them and did not think I would sell them and the Texas apron so quickly! Luckily I did snap a few (not so great) photos to remind me....
I am having major computer issues this week so if you try to contact me I may be slow to return! And this may be the only post if I can even get this up (this is the second retype) ugh! I think I have to give my sick computer a name if he (they are boys right?) recovers cause” The machine" might just be pissing him off.

I used 2 1/4" lace elastic for the waist instead of FOE(fold over elastic) I was going for a sort of lingere look

It has been a while since red has drifted back into my focus....It is however my lifelong favorite. I remember when I was in maybe 7th grade my dad asking me why I had so much red in my paintings"are you angry? "he asked. I totally did not get this (I have never thought of myself as angry),I don't remember how I responded . ...anyway a red for fall






Dada and I spent date night at this wonderful new to me Colombian restaurant; Casa Colombia.(love the red in their sign)

It was super fantastico, great food very nice atmosphere all for a reasonable price. Dada discovered it while we were in Bama.
He says it was opened by the chef who first opened Dona Emilia's . Which was a very tasty eastside treat that we used to go to when I was an eastsider back in the day. I have not been to the downtown location but from the looks of their website, Casa Columbia is more like the eastside Dona Emilia's that I remember.

Low key and laid back with fantastic food at reasonable price. I had perfectly pan cooked tilapia with avocado sliced on top and a spicy mayo on the side . Fried yucca, sweet plantains(YUMYUM), and beans came with it.
We also had this awesome appetizer of fried plantains stuffed with cheese. I totally forgot the food pix, sorry.


On this date-nite I sported another 5 minute angry chicken skirt I made. I used this beautiful vintage silk fabric that my sweet brother e -law gave me( thanks c). You can kinda see it here; think 1987 librarian..very sexy
I really love this pattern ...not these photos though .YOU MUST MAKE THIS SKIRT! IT IS FOOL PROOF!
The hem looks kinda janky in this photo ( I was having silk /serger issues), but I still loved it! Especially with my sexy datenite only shoes!( thanks nanny) I must take a real photo of these shoes they are really cute (not comfortable).

We had a fun Sunday! We rode out to the Buda Natural Science Museum

Farmers Market..we are back

This weekend, August 30th, we will be back at our regular gig at the Farmers Market.
Here is a preview of some new handmade cards. I am calling them seamstress cards... I used a pattern that my lady friend over at Apron strings wrapped my gift in.



I also used ladies from a vintage cardboard box that cinda thrifted for me! Thanks ladies for the inspiration, I kinda love these. The yellow is hand dyed in the paper and all the material is vintage scraps . I would say they are 5o% post consumer product or something(the actual card is new heavy watercolor paper)





I wanted to share this sweet photo of dada and burger It is nice to be home with daddy again we missed you dada....thanks for all the surprises it was a nice return! I sure do love my boys~

Pretty, new bags

I am sort of procrastinating getting ready for my market day this weekend so I just had to write a post about new bags. First off an absolutely fabulous trade from my ever so talented compadre Blue Mama.
I just loved her black plastic knitted bag she had for sell on etsy so we worked out a swap, custom bag for custom wrap skirt( I am still working on my end of the deal). By the way she still has one of these babies on her etsy.
The handles are these super cute vintage marbled square plastic treasures...I love them so!
She also made mine have a handy dandy front pocket adorned with coordinating vintage buttons!

Thank you blue mama I will use it with pride.



The other new bag I am posting about is one I made for myself for my trip to bama. It is a new belle and burger design that I am pretty excited about. It is sort of humongous but it doesn't really have to wear that way.

I designed it as my carry-all carry-on and It was able to be my only carry on(with burger in sling and one bag). Since being home I have been toting it with just my usual necessities and I am really enjoying its versatile size.
I can throw any little thing I might need to grab at the store in here instead of having to bring an extra shopping tote. The side pocket I designed for books and magazines opens up as a perfect extra tote on my tote!



It has three main compartments and a small cell/lip balm pocket in the main compartment along with a keyring loop(I would loose my phone and my keys if I did not add these two essentials)

It has one big shoulder style strap that is cinched in the center with a loop that is very comfy on your shoulder especially when the bag is loaded.
It is fully lined including the strap. I see it as a big bucket, style bag. I am ready to make more with maybe all four panels being coordinated fabrics but each different. I can't wait to put some together using different coordinating fabrics for all the panels. It is a patchwork dream.


On my bag I really wanted to work in one of my new little owls so I created a "fall drawing" with a little scabby owl
and I also had some fun with a little hand and machine embroidered details( I do not have a machine that really embroiders I just call by machine stitches that are purely decorative~ embroidered )

Have I ever told you how much I love that country Music?

Well I do. I loooooove it!I am not ashamed and I don't just like "old"country( although I do have issue with what some people call country music these days). I just like GOOD country Music ...It is the music singing in my SOUL and it is pretty loud and always on. Don't get me wrong I love music, all kinds, always have; but it all started with country vinyl. ~Admittedly I have an intolerable memory. I just don't remember things atall.But I do remember very well sitting in front of our fancy stereo in Coldwater Creek Alabama listening and learning to read from the Alabama Feels so right album cover
